We now are coming into the home stretch of this seemingly endless gloomy pattern we have been in. We are sitting in lots of low clouds today and other than some brightening, it will remain this way with some spotty light rain or drizzle in a few places. Temperatures will be in the 50s. Now during tonight rain will begin to sweep in from the southeast and arc northwestward into the coast. It should rain in most areas from later tonight through Friday evening. The rain will come in waves from offshore with some heavier downpours with light rain in between. Also it will get a little breezy along the coast with northeast winds beginning today and lasting into Friday night.

Now this might be an instance where weather models may under forecast the amount of rain. Ocean lows like this can tend to overproduce. We say yesterday what happened with heavy rains that moved into parts of Long Island and Coastal New Jersey which models did not handle well at all. I’m thinking this could very well happen again.

Rainfall Forecast Through Saturday
With respect to the coastal flooding issue, it appears that minor to some locally moderate coastal flooding is possible for the next several tide cycles through Friday night and even into early Saturday morning for the entire New Jersey coast and the western half of Long Island, Long Island Sound and Coastal Connecticut. Tide times and tide widgets are on the MARINE FORECAST post from last night.
Saturday with the storm system falling apart there will be clouds and leftover moisture to work through. So I dont know how much if any sun there will be. There will also be a few showers running around..more so later Saturday night and Sunday morning with a front coming through. But by Mother’s Day afternoon it should go partly sunny and next week starts out with sunshine and temperatures back into the 70s!
