Cheap Thrill Snow Showers Possible Tonight Into Sunday As Weak Low Moves East
Yesterday’s cold front and developing low off the coast of Eastern New England left a nice covering of snow in the Berkshires northward to the mountains of Vermont and New Hampshire. Some areas put down over half of foot of snow from south to north but of course we see the effects of the valleys in between and the shadows that develop. I would regard this as the first “widespread” snowfall for New England though there were limits. It is a start for snow lovers at least.
We have a series of weaker systems coming through tonight through Sunday night. The systems remain fractured. They aren’t phasing together. It is basically weak energy that is moving along and worst case scenario is that some places get a coating on mostly colder surfaces tonight into Sunday and perhaps again later Sunday or Sunday night. Places closer to the coast will likely see some cold rain showers. This is not going to amount to much.
SATELLITE
WEATHER RADAR
The unimpressive nature of the satellite and radars pretty much tell the story. Patchy clouds are around along with large areas of sunshine. Also the radar is picking up very light precipitation moving southeast from Upstate NY and also some precipitation moving into Western Pennsylvania. Hardly any of that is reaching the ground. Not much time is left for daytime heating so highs will finish off in the upper 30s and lower 40s and then as clouds take over tonight, most lows will be in the upper 20s to middle 30s.
You can see the unimpressive nature of the NAM model for Sunday. We will leave it as lots of clouds with a few scattered snow or rain showers. Obviously colder areas north and west of the coast will see a better snow shower chance than coastal areas. Most highs will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s.
Another short wave trough drops southeast from the Great Lakes for Sunday night into Monday morning. Again some light scattered rain or snow showers are possible, otherwise look for lots of clouds Monday with highs just into the 40s. Another system and another chance of scattered rain or snow showers on Tuesday is in the cards with highs again just into the 40s.
Wednesday and Thursday look like quiet days and there is another cold front that will approach and move through Thursday evening and Thursday night with a few showers. Otherwise we have no major weather issues this week. Wednesday and Thursday highs will be in the 40s. We might push it to 50 Thursday and then it turns a little colder behind the front on Friday. Long range looks muddled and I can’t seem to wrap my head around what it all means. I will try to put some sense it to it after the European model cycle is done.
