Blizzard Conditions Just Inland Rain Wind Coast
The surface map above shows the storm sitting at the mouth of Chesapeake Bay with strong winds and heavy precipitation reaching into Southern New York & New England. The change to sleet and rain has already begun across Long Island and it has changed to rain in the coastal counties of New Jersey. The 1 foot plus snows look to be confined to areas near and just north and west of New York City northward. This is what happens when you get a coast hugger that is too far west by about 50-60 miles. Areas inland where they get all snow will be in the 1 to 2 foot range with easy so for much of the area just inland snow will fall heavy at times into this afternoon before tapering off.
Satellite and radars are pretty loaded as this major storm intensifies. Winds along the coast will gust to 50-60 mph as it moves north northeast literally straddling the shoreline.

All of this will gradually come to an later this afternoon and early evening. Weather conditions will improve tonight though it will be rather wind and cold right into midweek. At least some sunshine will be coming back for the next few days.
