Bitter Cold Morning Bitter Cold Day Snow Chance South Friday

Temperatures this morning hit their bottoms in the NYC/PHL area in a general range between 5 below zero and 5 above zero. Winds are still churning the cold today with gusts into the mid and upper 20s so the below zero wind chills continue. Today we hit bottom with high temperatures just in the mid teens in most places. We should see lots of sunshine. Then we head into another night of bitter cold but with a bit less wind. Lows will be down in the single digits to near zero in the cold spots. Less wind makes it easier to take.

The radars are silent with one glaring exception and that is the Montague Radar in upstate NY which is showing the persistent band of heavy snow that has been streaming off of Lake Ontario for what is now the 3rd day. Someone along I-81 north of Syracuse to Pulaski and Watertown is getting clobbered with feet of snow.

Friday brings clouds as warm air starts to move eastward and that means there could be an area of snow. i think it passes just south of NYC & Long Island and places in New Jersey south of 195 and in Pennsylvania south of Route 76 get a coating to an inch or so of snow Friday afternoon into the evening. Temperatures should break into the 20S Friday afternoon and not drop much at night. The system is weak and there is not much if any support aloft here as it is more about warm advection than it is about any low pressure area..
