Belmont Day Begins Sunny & Warm

Saturday Belmont Day gets underway with a good deal of sunshine with just a few patchy high clouds around. We are seeing the beginnings of the frontal boundary which will be impacting our weather as move into Sunday and Monday. To the north in Canada is the big high that will be building southward on Sunday. How that strong that high is will determine how far south the dry air gets. Temperatures today will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s in most places. Models continue to go all over the place with this weekend but we continue to believe that for areas from Northeastern Pennsylvania, Northern New Jersey to the Hudson Valley, Southern New England & Long Island there will be no rain to worry about through Sunday evening.

Radars are nice and quiet at the moment. We might see a few showers or a thundertorm pop up in Southeastern Pennsylvania and in the Southern New Jersey Counties late this afternoon. The Severe weather risk from the forecast from the Storm Prediction Center is well to the south of us in Delaware to Maryland and Northern Virginia so we aren’t too concerned with this.

Now comes the Sunday dilemma which is does the high to the north win out with dry air pushing all the way south to Delaware Bay or does the high stay a little weaker and allow the front to buckle with some rain developing. The NAM would suggest some rain for Central & South Jersey and parts of Eastern Pennsylvania on Sunday but from Northern New Jersey to Long Island to Southern New England it remains dry all day. I’m not sure that the strength of the high ultimately wins out here and suppresses the rain further south. Ultimately the rain never seems to make any northward progress Sunday night as low pressure develops along the Virginia coast and heads out to the east. Temperatures on Sunday will be impacted by clouds and an ocean wind direction so highs will be in the 60s along the coast and just into the 70s inland. Monday we will see increasing amounts of sunshine with highs in the 70s.
