Belmont Stakes Cautious Optimism Weekend Weather Forecast
Belmont Stakes Cautious Optimism Weekend Weather Forecast
Blocking patterns are always a challenge to forecast and this one has been a real challenge with weather models virtually all over the place as far as the weekend goes. Most have everyone dry from Northeastern Pennsylvania through the Northern Half of New Jersey (north of Route 195) to NYC, the Hudson Valley & Southern New England. Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey remain a problem as it will depend on how strong the next high builds south from Canada on Sunday. In addition some models see waves of low pressure on that front buckling through while others don’t. It would seem that Saturday looks dry. Im going to leave the mention of a brief shower or thunderstorm that could pop up but it will be isolated in nature. Otherwise Saturday looks good with a mix of sun and clouds with highs reaching into the 80s.
GFS FORECAST SUNDAY JUNE 10, 2018
Sunday we will be about 10 or more degrees cooler with highs just in the 70s and this will be another case of high pressure from the north in Southeastern Canada building down the East Coast. This forces the frontal boundary to our south. I think that in New Jersey north of 195 & Northeastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England it is no worse than a partly sunny day. South of this area it will be cloudy and there will be some rain but it may hold off until later in the day or Sunday night into Monday morning. If this is the case and the high to the north stays in control, Monday and Tuesday should be okay with some sunshine
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
As far as today is concerned it looks to be the best day in what has been a rather cloudy week. Sunshine starts us off with some patchy high clouds around from time to time today with temperatures reaching the 80s except near the ocean where the sea breeze will likely take hold this afternoon. No rain on the radars to worry about. Tonight will see a mix of clear skies and some clouds with most lows in the upper 50s to middle 60s.
As for the Belmont Stakes and Belmont Day which is loaded with Grade 1 races including the Met Mile, the Manhattan, the Acorn, and as well as the Belmont Stakes which is race 12 at 6:45, handicap for a fast dirt track and a firm turf course. I’m routing for Justify but I will bet against him with perhaps the 3rd choice in the wagering. Hoffburg is the obvious second choice here so Im going to shy away from him and try to get a price.
