Beautiful Day New Jersey West As Coastal Storm Stays Well Offshore

If you were west of New York City in New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania and the Hudson Valley today you had a beautiful day with lots of sunshine and temperatures that reached up into the low 70s. If you were east of NYC it was clouds and rain stayed mainly over the eastern half of Connecticut and Long Island. The circulation of the coastal storm is obvious on the latest satellite picture. It remains along 70 degrees west and never made the clockwise loop back westward enough to bring in the rain from the east even to NYC. Where the clouds are it is in the 60s and where it is raining temperatures are in the raw low 50s. This also lessened the wind considerably and is also going to lessen the impact of coastal flooding at the next several high tides. Coastal Flood Warnings remain in effect for moderate coastal flooding on the south shore of Long Island as well as coastal New Jersey from Ocean county southward to the Delmarva Peninsula.

Friday we should have lots of clouds with just a few patchy showers along the coast. Skies could see some breaks and allow for some sunshine further inland in Western New Jersey and in Hudson Valley west of the Hudson River. Highs will be in the 60s to the west and 50s over Long Island and Connecticut. It will be breezy but no serious wind issues are excepted.

Let’s look ahead to the weekend where our storm finally departs to the northeast and a weakening cold front from the Northern Rockies/Plains snowstorm moves eastward. We will likely see clouds around for Saturday with highs in the 60s. Some breaks of sunshine are possible.

Beautiful Day New Jersey West As Coastal Storm Stays Well OffshoreSunday the weak front stalls and there could be a little minor wave action on it with clouds and it now looks like there could be some showers possible late in the day into Sunday night. Highs Monday will be in the  60s to near 70. This system should move out as  a cold front to the west pushes it away on Monday. Some sunshine develops Monday. Highs  Monday should be into the 70s. Tuesday look for arriving clouds with highs in the 60s to near 70.

A stronger cold front will arrive on Wednesday with a good chance for some showers. Behind that front is a shot of chilly Autumn air for Thursday and Friday. Highs both days probably won’t get out of the 50s in most places with nights down in the 30s and lower 40s.
