Autumn Returns This Weekend
We are beginning the process as Autumn returns this weekend. It is going to take a strong storm system to do it and one will form tonight just east of New Jersey and south of Long Island that heads slowly northward into New England on Saturday. The front to the west is producing lots of rain across Western Pennsylvania and upstate NY benefiting dry areas there. Some rain has lined up along the coast that is effecting in Eastern New Jersey, New York City the Hudson Valley and Western Connecticut. You can see the stick of rain right along the coast moving northward.
The big question for Saturday is whether the rain that develops later tonight sticks around all day. Some of the short range models seem to be going in this direction. Models are having difficulty with low pressure off the Southeast coast which is not going to become tropical but winds up interacting with the development occurring off the Southern New England coast. It seems models may want to try making this the primary low. If this is the case, then it is quite possible that rain could fall much of the day Saturday along with a strengthening wind from the northwest and temperatures in the 50s.
In the meantime we will have these occasional bands of showers moving through in some places into the first part of the night before steadier rain develops after midnight. Temperatures the rest of today will be in the 70s.
