Arctic Blast Weekend Warmer Weather Ahead
Arctic Blast Weekend Warmer Weather Ahead
Deep snow cover and an Arctic blast directly from the north is making for a vast arctic wasteland this morning across much of our area. 1 foot plus snows cover the coastal areas and temperatures this morning have bottomed in the single digits. We have sunshine but we also have a fierce wind which will be gusting to 40 mph or more. Wind Chill Advisory is posted right through Saturday morning. We have sunshine but it is completely ineffective and temperatures today are likely to hover in the lower teens at best and some areas may not get above 10.
The satellite loop shows yesterday’s storm up in Eastern Canada and moving way. Some clouds are showing up inland west and north and a few of those could come in from time to time today.

REGIONAL RADAR
The next 2 nights are going to be exceptionally cold and it is quite possible we will see widespread below zero readings tonight and again Saturday night. Saturday’s daytime highs will only be in the single digits and low teens. Sunday highs should try and make a run for 20! We will add at 3 more days of temperatures not getting out of the teens for daytime highs making it 9 or 10 days this winter that we have seen this happen. Not since 1917 have we seen this many day days of temperatures not able to make 20 degrees for a high.
The extreme nature of this bitter cold pattern has finally played itself out and we are about to see at the very least a pattern relaxation where the Arctic connection is severed at least for time being. We will warm up to seasonal temperatures or even above average at times next week. In the process we will see the chance for some wintry precipitation late Monday into Monday night with a weak weather front. It could be snow or an icy mix. The very cold ground could make for very slippery conditions here next Tuesday morning but we will investigate this more later today.
