Winter Weather Advisory New Jersey South of Route 195

Southern PA Maryland Delaware

Yesterday’s weather system impacted areas to the north. The next weather system for tonight and Thursday will impact areas as you go south. Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for New Jersey mainly south of Route 195. The advisory also covers South Central and Southeastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Maryland. Winter Storm Watches are up for much of Virginia where up to a foot of snow is forecast.

The northern fringe of snow could push into the Hudson Valley and Long Island tonight into Friday morning and that area might see a coating to perhaps an inch tops. We will cover for that possibility. Amounts increase as you head south into the advisory zone. Much like what happened yesterday there is the chance for some local upside surprises here.

Today at least we will start with sunshine before clouds start to roll in. In fact some areas are already seeing clouds moving in. Temperatures today will struggle just to get out of the 20s in most places. Regional radars will start to pick up on the developing snow later today.

Tonight we will see snow overspread Pennsylvania and New Jersey and latest model runs have actually ticked a little further north with the northern extent of this system. Also models have become a bit more robust with this as well. National Weather Service snow forecast maps have trended a little higher with their numbers. I think there could be a little more room to nudge numbers up.

We remain close the boundary of bitter cold air over the Great Lakes and Northern Plains. That cold air has bled into the Eastern US down into the Carolinas. Ripples are propagating eastward and these ripples are bringing rounds of snow as the NAM model shows.

Snow overspreads Southern and Eastern Pennsylvania tonight as well as the Southern half of New Jersey. Areas to the north of Route 195 in New Jersey will see some snow move in overnight. It comes to an end Thursday morning from north to south. Temperatures tonight will be in the 20s. Thursday look for leftover clouds after the snow ends with highs in the upper 20s and lower 30s. Friday with another little system moving across Virginia. look for clouds and some sun here with highs again mostly in the 20s.

There is no rest for the snow weary as another storm system will be swinging out of the Gulf States and head up the coast this weekend. Weather models remain bullish for more accumulating snow later Saturday into Sunday. There are other systems in the pipeline for early next week so keep shovels and snow blowers ready.
