Winter Weather Advisory Inland NJ Hudson Valley Eastern PA
Winter Weather Advisory continues for the area outlined in the dark purple. The surface map above shows the temperature problem. Coastal temperatures are rising pretty quickly so there is no issue here but inland north and west especially in NW New Jersey and Northeast Pennsylvania, it is a struggle. The Hudson Valley seems to be sitting somewhere in between at the moment with some warmer air moving now into southern areas but not making much penetration northward at least for the moment. The air remains dry so once precipitation arrives there will be some cooling. We will be watching closer since models tend to overdo the warming in cases like this.
Radars are showing areas of snow developing. Most of this is light however weather models have been having an issue with this as they have not been showing much. Warm fronts like this can be very tricky. The best approach for inland areas is to watch for some snow or a mix to move through going into this evening. A steadier round of precipitation will arrive before midnight so it will be a matter of where temperatures are when that happens. Snow amounts should be on the order of an inch or less in most places with some ice up to a tenth of an inch possible on top of that.
