Winter Weather Advisory For Icing Tonight Into Tuesday Morning
Winter Weather Advisory is posted by the National Weather Service for Northeastern Pennsylvania and Northwest New Jersey, Southeast New York except Southern Westchester County and for Connecticut north of the Merritt Parkway. There have been no important changes to the forecast over the last few days. Models have been remarkably consistent for this event and we see no reason to change anything. Take a look at the National Weather Service warnings and watches map and you can see how this storm is effecting the nation. It is rather impressive how much of the US has been affected by this storm
As of last night we had everything from Blizzard Warnings in the orange to Winter Storm Warnings in the pink to Flash Flood Watches in red to Severe Thunderstorm Watches in yellow, flood watches in green and winter weather advisory in blue. Amazing. Latest weather video explains my forecast map along with latest model guidance.
Precipitation will move in this evening from southwest to northeast arriving in Northeast Pennsylvania around or before 7pm and spreading into Southern New England by 10-11pm. By daybreak most areas south of route 84 would have changed over to rain as temperatures warm above freezing except in some elevated areas as well as some valleys where cold air can get trapped.
My forecast map which I drew 3 days ago has remained unchanged. Know your local highways and you can figure out what I expect for your area. Honestly this should not be a big problem normally however for inland areas that have icing issues this is the first one of the season so drive with extra care if you have to. It is always better to be cautious. Rainfall amounts should total up to an inch which puts another dent in the rainfall deficit. Temperatures will be in the 30s to low 40s today and hold there except in icing areas where it may briefly drop to upper 20s to low 30s before rising again toward morning. All areas in our region will be above freezing around daybreak except areas far inland where pockets of 32 degree temperatures might hold.
We should dry out late Tuesday into Wednesday. Another wave will bring some rain late Wednesday into Wednesday night and behind that wave we begin a transition to colder air for New Years Eve and into the weekend where temperatures will actually be below normal for a change for a few days.
