Winter Storm Warning Hudson Valley Connecticut North of RT 84

Winter Weather Advisory New Jersey North of Route 78, NYC Long Island,

Lower Hudson Valley, Connecticut South of Route 84

This is truly one of those situations where a degree is going to make a huge difference. The deep snow cover from here north through all of New England is going to create a cold air damming situation and this is going to be extremely tenuous forecast problem regarding snow and ice. Models continue to edge every so slightly colder. Winter Storm Warning has been posted for Dutchess County and much of upstate NY north of Route 84 as well as Northwest Connecticut north of 84. Winter Storm Watch in New England will be upgraded to a Winter Storm Warning at some point this evening. Winter Weather Advisory now posted in Northern New Jersey south to Route 78 and for New York City and Long Island.

winter storm warning

I raised my estimates for snow and nudged the southern edge of the snow ice rain line south of Route 78. Please be advised that if you are in the southern edge of the 2 to 4 inch line that your forecast may have some volatility depending on as little as a 1 degree change.

storm free

Snow and sleet should begin around day break in a small area across Norther New Jersey and New York City and essentially break out across the Hudson Valley and Connecticut between 7 and 10 am. Heavy wet snow will break out in the colder air and then spread north and northeast. The rain snow line wlll then pivot northward to just inland of the coast and then just stall out. Depending on temperatures this forecast could adjust several times over the next 24 hours.

Precipitation should start to end around 7pm-10pm from west to east as the storm reforms off the New Jersey coast and intensifies into a major storm just east of Cape Cod. Strong winds will develop late Sunday night through Monday evening as the storm briefly stalls east of Cape Cod. Wind gusts Monday should approach 40 to 50 mph from the northwest especially along the coast.
