Winter Storm Warning Continues Today Snow Should Be On Low Range of Estimates
I’m not expecting any surprises today regarding this system. It is a fast mover over a marginal cold air. It will put out several to perhaps six inches in some places and then it is done. I would suspect we may finish on the lower range of estimates. This is basically a 6 hour snowfall and there is only so much you can do in 6 hours.
This system stands a good chance of underperforming given the circumstances from NYC south and west. From NYC east there is still a possibility that the storm performs in line with estimates as at this point the low will be deepening offshore and you might get some heavier bands that develop early this afternoon. Otherwise we roll along.
SATELLITE
Radars are busy enough as snow is developing and moving to the northeast on the NYC centered radar as well as the regional Mid Atlantic radar below. Movement is generally to the northeast.
F5 WEATHER RADARS
Snow should gradually end from southwest to northeast later this afternoon as the low accelerates to the northeast and out to sea.
Weather conditions will improve tonght and it will turn much colder as skies clear so have salt ready as everything will ice up. lows by morning will be in the teens to lower 20s. Monday will be a sunny but cold day with highs just in the upper 20s and lower 30s.
The week ahead presents challenges in what I would describe as a bowling alley pattern. We are going to be sitting on the edge of very cold air for the next 10 days which is where you want to be if you are a snow lover. Tuesday brings a weak system of snow or in some cases rain showers and it won’t produce much. Then we have Thursday Friday where a slightly stronger set up will produce some overrunning snow and ice. A third system and potentially even stronger sets up for next Sunday. And there are several more beyond that in the long range. Busy times lie ahead.
