Looking over the late afternoon and the first round of models this evening plus judging what is going on when we look at satellite and radar loops below, there are no major changes in the forecast outlook for the overnight. Clouds are beginning to move up from the south as the first round of rain makes its way northward. The rain should be moving into Southern areas of Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey around daybreak and then reach New York City and Northeastern Pennsylvania by mid to late Morning. Then it is on the Long Island, the Hudson Valley and Connecticut right after lunch time.

Radars to the south are loading up at the moment and we will see our local radars below begin to show activity as the night wears on. The rain area looks impressive enough but it will probably weaken a little bit as it moves northward over us. The problem for Tuesday afternoon is how much if any cold air will be around. There could be a period of wet snow in the mix but even if it happens it should not amount to much.

Once this first area of rain moves through there should be a break in the action before the rain from a major storm in the midwest moves in on Wednesday. It is most fortunate that this storm wound up being inland and not offshore. Otherwise there would have been some serious coastal flooding issues with a nor’easter offshore. As it happens the biggest issue may be for Long Island on Wednesday and Wednesday night with southerly winds to gale forecast. This could raise coastal flooding concerns for the Long Island South Shore. As for rainfall amounts here is the latest rainfall forecast for the area. At least 1 to 2 inches of rain should fall across the entire region.
