Weekend Underway Wide Temperature Range Sunday Showers Arrive Tuesday

There are some cloud issues around the area this afternoon and going into tonight and that is thanks to a major storm in the Northern Plains producing blizzard conditions and severe weather there. Here it is nuisance clouds that are cutting back on the sunshine. This is keeping temperatures in check this afternoon with most highs in the upper 50s and lower 60s. During tonight clouds will be around and we can thank a developing onshore flow that will last into Monday.

While the radar is showing showers in Upstate NY moving southeast they should weaken. Tonight with the clouds around, temperatures will be in the 40s. There might be a little patchy light rain or drizzle primarily along the coast. Most areas probably won’t have any issues from this.

Sunday will be one of those spring days where if you are east of the red line, you are going to want to wish you lived to the west of it. To the east a wind off the ocean will keep temperatures in the 50s to lower 60s. Some places at the immediate shore probably won’t get out of the 40s. There will be also cloud issues to start the day though it may eventually go partly sunny or at least brighten up. To the west of the red line more sunshine, fewer clouds and not much of an ocean wind so those areas will have a nice spring day with highs reaching the 70s and even the 80s!

Monday will be a wash rinse repeat version of Sunday with one noteable difference. The areas that will be warm Sunday will see their temperatures shaved off by about 10 degrees or so thanks to more clouds around and an onshore wind that penetrates inland. No rain is forecast however with the exception of Sunday night into Monday morning along the coast where we could see patches of light rain or drizzle.

Tuesday brings a cold front with a chance for showers. There doesn’t appear to be much with it but we could have a little wave on the front bringing rain up the coast Tuesday night. It doesn’t look like a big deal. A chilly pattern sets up for the second half of next week with a mix of sun and clouds Wednesday through Friday. The worst thing that happens is that there could be an instability shower or two on any afternoon and they should be widely scattered. Temperatures will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s for the most part which continues the trend of below average temperatures. No big storms are on the horizon for now as we head into the month of may though the pattern still looks rather blocky in nature. That can always cause a problem to crop up.
