Weekend Looks Ok Overall Minor Issues

A narrow sliver of dry air lies between an upper trough lying east west across New England and low pressure to the south developing in North Carolina. Rain is on the radar in Southern New Jersey and Southern Pennsylvania as well as points south into Virginia where heavier rain will fall today. This area will slide to the south and east and should not get any further north. The weather this afternoon clearly depends on your location. North and east of NYC you have partly sunny skies with high clouds in the mix. Just south of there it is mostly overcast. Temperatures this afternoon will be in the lower 70s where you have some sun. However where it is raining in Southern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey, temperatures are in the low 60s and even a few upper 50s are showing up.

Tonight the southern system moves east while the northern system moves south with some clouds. Saturday morning there could be a brief shower over Eastern Long Island and Southeastern New England but no rain is forecast anywhere else. The rains to the south end this evening and slide offshore. Lows tonight will be in the upper 50s and lower 60s.

One thing we won’t have to worry about this weekend is the humidity as it will remain low. Skies should be partly sunny Saturday with most highs in the 70s. Warm spots to the south where it is raining today could see highs break above 80.

Sunday we will cautiously call it partly sunny though there may be more clouds than sun. Temperatures Sunday will be in the 70s to near 80. Late in the day a weak cold front will approach and that could trigger off a scattered shower or a thunderstorm in the evening.

Next week we see an interesting pattern for this time of year. There is a lot of amplitude in the flow. A Strong heat ridge builds in the Rockies and Southwest US while a deep trough takes over in the Eastern US. If it is bone dry heat you want you want to head under that heat ridge. Here in the Eastern US we will be under a strong northwesterly flow for all of next week. Troughs will swing around that upper low and push cold front through here. We have a weak one on Sunday. Another follows Monday with a late day shower or thunderstorm but the day should be dry with partly sunny skies. The same holds for Tuesday. It will be cool Wednesday and Thursday but dry. Monday and Tuesday highs will be in the upper 70s and lower 80s. Wednesday and Thursday highs will be in the 70s. Humidity levels will remain relatively low all week.
