Warmer Temperatures Ahead of Cold Front

Rain Chances Friday Night into Saturday

We are sitting ahead of a cold front that will be moving through tonight. That front is dropping southward through New England and the showers with that front will fall apart long before the front reaches Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England. A second system is moving across the Mid Atlantic states which is going to trigger severe weather today in the the Southern Appalachians. This weather will pass to our south, perhaps grazing Southern New Jersey south to Delaware with a few showers. Otherwise much of the area sits between the two and that means sunshine today and highs reaching the upper 70s and lower 80s. We will still have a bit of a smokey sky until upper air winds turn more northerly tonight and Wednesday and that should clear things up.

Once the front passes we are going to see rather chilly air head south from Canada and that will settle in for Wednesday into Thursday. Wednesday morning lows will be in the 40s to low 50s and highs Wednesday with some sunshine will be in the 60s.

There will be some dry weather concerns Wednesday with gusty winds developing from the northwest and an environment of very low dew points. I would not be surprised to see elevated fire risk Wednesday. Also we have a possibility of some frost or light freezes inland Wednesday night into Thursday morning. With clear skies and less wind warmer urban areas will be in the 40s however just inland and north we could see lows near or below freezing.

This chilly high moving southward from Canada will move offshore but just to our east. This is going to set up a southeast to south flow and that will hold back any kind of serious warm up especially Thursday. It will not be a set up with a marine layer so skies should be sunny Thursday but highs will be mostly in the 60s.

Friday we will likely see sun and arriving clouds and again it will be a southeast to south wind that will control the temperatures. Highs will reach the upper 60s to lower 70s in most places with the warmest temperatures inland. We do have a cold front that will be coming in from the west as well as  a weak low that develops off the southeast US coast and heads northward Friday night.

The weak ocean low pushes rain northward long the coast that gradually gets absorbed by the cold front coming in from the west. Look for Showers Friday night into Saturday morning and then we should see improving weather conditions Saturday afternoon with decreasing clouds.

Then Sunday we see a nice sunny day with highs in the low to mid 70s to finish off the weekend.
