Warm Almost Summery Afternoon
Warm Almost Summery Afternoon
It definitely feels like a warm summery afternoon with temperatures reaching 80 or so in many areas. Records today at the major reporting stations are sitting up around 90 so only the stations with small data sets might do it. We have a seen a fair amount but there are some clouds coming in from the northwest. That plus the low sun angle and early sunset probably means at most another degree or two higher from here before it begins to cool off.
These temperatures are running 15 to 20 degrees above normal and you can expect the next 2 days to see temperatures into the 80s just about everywhere though coastal areas will be subject to a sea breeze which may cool temperatures down after an initial warm up to 80 or so in the morning.
No rain is forecast through at least Wednesday and probably Thursday. On Thursday a back door front sets up overhead so this turns the winds more south southeast and there will be clouds. Temperatures will be back down to the upper 60s and lower 70s for the highs.
Friday and Saturday are in flux at the moment. The Canadian and GFS models show a cold front moving through and stalling with a coastal low and some rain. The European goes insane in developing a vortex in Eastern Canada which overwhelms the northeast with cold dry air. The European would imply a breezy cold weekend. All the models keep any tropical storm that develops off the Southeast Coast offshore though the GFS would make it a much closer call but still out to sea.
Meanwhile the National Hurricane Center raises the probability of a tropical cyclone development off the Southeast US Coast to 60 percent. Weather models continue to show development but unless the trough as shown by the GFS is deeper and further west, it is destined to stay offshore.
