Warm 80s Thursday Changes Follow Friday

All it took was a wind shift from the southeast to the southwest to make a10 degree difference in temperatures this afternoon as we reached the upper 70s to near 80 in many locations. Clouds are still well north and west of us so look for a nice clear night with temperatures 10 degrees warmer than past nights. Most lows will be in the low to mid 60s except some 50s in cooler areas away from the coast. Thursday the cold front to the northwest moves through but other than some patchy clouds there won’t be much with it. High temperatures however will be into the 80s in many locations away from the coast.

Friday brings about an onshore flow as the front stalls to our south and then comes back up northward as a warm front Friday night & Saturday. The front should not have too much difficulty getting through but there will be clouds and some showers running around. Highs will be lower with most areas in the upper 60s to middle 70s. The weekend should not be too bad. There will be clouds and some sun both Saturday and Sunday with highs in the mid 70s to lower 80s. I’m thinking that showers will hold off until later Sunday night or Monday as a cold front approaches. We will also have to follow what could be Hurricane Nate as it is forecast to move northward through the Eastern Gulf of Mexico and threatening the Florida Panhandle.

How much rain we get from any tropical system moving up the East Coast depends on whether it moves up along or just west of the Appalachians or if it moves up further east just inland of the coast. The more west track seems likely at the moment which would limit rain to coastal areas but it could be a very heavy rainfall of several inches or more from Western Virginia, Central & Western Pennsylvania & Upstate NY. For now we will call for cloudy skies with rain or showers developing later Monday and lasting into Tuesday before weather conditions improve afterwards.
