Very Warm to Hot Humid Weather Next 3 Days

Thunderstorm Risks Increase Over the Weekend

The next 2 days will feature what I would describe as very warm to hot conditions. Humidity levels will be on the high side as well so it will be uncomfortable. However one plus will be that we should get a break from widespread thunderstorm activitiy. There might be an isolated downpour or thunderstorm that develops but overall the vast majority of you will miss any thunderstorms. High temperatures this afternoon will reach the upper 80s to some lower 90s. Relief will be there for you at the shore with temperatures at the beaches mostly in the 70s thanks to sea breezes.

Since we are not seeing the arrival of a clean Canadian air mass behind yesterday’s cold front, it will remain warm and humid tonight with most lows in the mid 60s inland to low 70s coast and warmer urban locations. Thursday we will see very warm to hot conditions again with sunshine and the risk for some widely scattered thundertorms in the afternoon and evening. The best chances for anything rain wise should be inland. Thursday highs will be in the mid 80s to around 90 degrees. Again temperatures will be in the 70s to near 80 along the shore.

The overall weather pattern continues to be one where the flow from Canada is producing a strong influence. It is keeping weather systems moving along from west to east. It is also preventing a high pressure ridge from building in the Eastern US which means long duration heat waves (90 degrees or higher for at least 5 days consecutive) can’t happen.

Starting Friday we will begin to deal with weather fronts approaching. The first one will produce a chance for showers and thunderstorms late in the day into Friday night. Right now I think the best chance for thunderstorms will likely be inland and west rather than the coast. Before any storms arrive we will have sunshine and it remain very warm and humid with highs in the mid to upper 80s.

Weather fronts have been stalling out as they near the coast lately so the Friday front will be no different. Saturday we will see clouds and some sun but we will also see some thunderstorms possible late in the day. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s. It should be emphasized that much of the time both Friday and Saturday will be rain free.

Sunday could prove to be an interesting weather day as we watch low pressure and a rather strong upper air short wave swing northeast out of the Ohio Valley. This could bring widespread shower and thunderstorma activity Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. Highs Sunday will be in the mid 70s to lower 80s. There is potential for some heavy rain with this low. A short break develops early on Monday before a second system follows up with more showers and thunderstorms Monday night into Tuesday. We will discuss more on these weather systems in the coming days.
