Unrelenting Wind Eases Friday
Cold Weekend Snow Chance NYC South
The wind continues to howl at times from the northwest thanks to the storm east of Nova Scotia and a strong high to the northwest of the Northern Great Lakes. We have also seen a decrease in temperatures today. Clouds swept in this morning and they cut the sun off from what little daytime heating we could get and temperatures have been hovering in the middle 30s in most places. Add to this a 30 mph wind and you have wind chills down in the upper teens and lower 20s. We should see clouds start to break up somewhat tonight and temperatures will be heading down into the teens and lower 20s.
EASTERN SATELLITE
REGIONAL RADAR
The lake effect snow machine had been working overtime into this morning but we are beginning to see the snow shower activity to the north decrease though there are still some patches of snow showers and heavier squalls. Every once in awhile a snow shower shows up on our local radars but they should soon disappear from sight.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
Friday should see much less wind and much more sun but the core of the cold air will be settling in so highs will be in the upper 20s to lower 30s. Another cold night follows Friday night into Saturday morning with most lows in the teens to near 20.
Im making no changes to my forecast for the time being though I am considering bringing down the area of 1 to 3 a bit lower. The higher amounts would be more toward the southern end of the range down near the Maryland Virginia border. Dry air is an issue here as that will cause snow to evaporate before it even reaches the ground and that could cut down amounts as well. Saturday we should arriving clouds with highs in the 20s. Some snow will fall Saturday night into Sunday morning. From just north of NYC northward you will likely get completely shut out from this. Later Sunday morning the snow area drops southward and leftover clouds could even give way to some afternoon sunshine on Sunday with highs in the upper 20s to lower 30s.
