Two Appalachian Storms Colder Pattern Lie Ahead As November Ends December Arrives
November has certainly been a warm month but that is now coming to a close. We will finish this last weekend dry before the first of two Appalachian storms impact us next week. A weak cold front is through and we will have clouds giving way to sunshine. Highs will be in the 50s. The weak front produced a couple of scattered showers and those disappear to the east as the day wears on. There are no issues with rain for the rest of the weekend.

Temperatures today will be in the low to mid 50s for highs today and Sunday. Skies should be clear tonight with lows in the low to mid 30s and a few 20s in colder spots. Then we set the table for the arrival of heavy rain for Monday.
As we indicated in prior posts a major pattern change is underway that will favor storms in the east, a colder scheme overall, and eventually the opportunity for some winter weather moving for the middle of this month. Before we get there we have to prime the atmosphere and drive the change with two storms moving up the Appalachians. Storm number 1 will bring a windswept soaking rain Monday developing in the morning from south to north and ending in the evening from south to north.
Rainfall will be in the order of a inch and a half with the heaviest rains moving through during the afternoon and 2 or more inches is forecast for Southern New England. West of the low track we will see snow from this as far south as the Georgia North Carolina state line.
Snow lovers here need to be a little patient but I think in the longer range we may get into an interesting pattern after the second Appalachian storm develops late next week. In the meantime behind this first low it will be windy and it will turn colder for the rest of next week. Temperatures will be in the 40s by day and upper 20s to mid 30s at night.
Storm number two sets up for next weekend and this will be another one that runs up the Appalachians with snow to the west in the Ohio Valley and eventually into Western PA, and Upstate NY. Behind this system is when we should get cold enough for snow chances and that could come in a pattern where we see a series of divers from Canada that dive into the trough in the Eastern US.
This is certainly a big change from the pattern of November for sure. The flow from Canada is trying to connect with cold air to the north. The trough is in the east. Now we wait to see what happens with individual systems.
