A TROPICAL STORM WATCH MEANS THAT TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS ARE
POSSIBLE WITHIN THE WATCH AREA…IN THIS CASE WITHIN 36 TO 48 HOURS.
INTERESTS ELSEWHERE IN THE MAIN HAWAIIAN ISLANDS SHOULD MONITOR THE
PROGRESS OF GUILLERMO. WATCHES MAY BE REQUIRED FOR ADDITIONAL
ISLANDS ON TUESDAY.
Over the last several days there has been a slight northward shift in the overall track which keeps the Hawaiian islands on the southern end. It has gone from a close shave to now being forecast to move parallel to the island about 60 to 100 miles north at least with regards to the center. The satellite presentation of the tropical storm has improved some overnight and this means it might maintain strength a little longer though I doubt it will restrengthen to a hurricane due to the strong westerly winds aloft. Still it will bring tropical storm conditions to some of the islands and warnings are likely later today for some areas.
The Atlantic side remains quiet. Low pressure will be moving of North Carolina and it looks like development is a long shot here. There isn’t much else at the moment. A wave has moved off the African coast this morning so we will see what that does over the next few days but conditions are not very favorable.
