Tropical Storm Karl Tropical Storm Lisa
TROPICALS STORM KARL & NEW TROPICAL STORM LISA OUT IN THE ATLANTIC
KARL COULD THREATEN BERMUDA
We have Tropical Storm Karl & now Tropical Storm Lisa out in the open waters of the Atlantic but neither is a threat to the United States. Tropical Storm Karl is a threat to Bermuda over the weekend as it is forecast to reach 70 degrees West or so and then turn sharply east northeastward. This could bring Karl close to Bermuda on Sunday.
Lisa may not strengthen much beyond a minimal tropical storm and its life span appears limited. The circulation of Karl and low pressure to the northeast will wind up absorbing Lisa over time. As for Karl it looks like it will not strengthen to a hurricane until after it passes Bermuda. Even the European model which has been the most aggressive of all the models over the past few days backs off today as it takes it near Bermuda as well. These storms are no threat to the east coast at all as a strong cold front moves offshore Friday night and strong westerly winds aloft push these systems away from the coast. Here are the latest advisories on both storms.
You can see both tropical storms on the satellite picture. Both are having issues with wind shear. Karl in particular has been struggling for quite awhile now. You can see the upper low to the west of Karl having impact on the storm and shearing the western side of the circulation.
