There May Be Two Chances For Brief Showers
In A Mostly Dry & Warmer Week Ahead
Today marks the 28th consecutive day of no rain for many areas across Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England. The week ahead will be about a cool start and a warmer finish. We actually have two very minor chances for a couple of showers. The first will be Tuesday night as a warm front goes by to our north. With it the chance for a passing shower or two Tuesday night and it will not amount to much even if it happens. The second will be Friday when the next cold front passes and there could be some scattered shower chances with that as it goes by.

Satellite loops show some clouds in upstate NY and Northern New England moving southeastward. Also we ahve some lingering clouds in North and South Carolina thanks to high pressure and a northeast wind in that area. Otherwise this Monday across Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England and Long Island will be a partly to mostly sunny day. Most highs will be in the cool 50s to around 60 degrees.
The core of the cold air moves out tonight and it will not be as cool as the past couple of nights. Morning lows will be in the mid to upper 30s in the coldest spots tonight. Most lows will settle in the 40s. Tuesday we will call it partly sunny as we may have some high clouds to deal with thanks to a warm front cross the Great Lakes. Highs Tuesday will be back into the 60s everywhere.
If we get a few showers Tuesday night and that is a big if…it will amount to very little. Maybe the ground gets wet with a couple of hundreths of an inch of rain. South of NYC it may just be some clouds and no rain at all (which is far more likely) Wednesday will be the first of 2 very warm days. Sunshine and a west southwest wind will take temperatures up to the middle and even some upper 70s.
Thursday is Halloween and we have a chance to see record breaking highs in some places. It will be a mainly sunny day with temperatures reaching the upper 70s and lower 80s. It may be a little cooler at the coast where local sea breezes are likely to develop. Otherwise no rain is forecast for trick or treaters. High clouds may start to arrive later in the day as another cold front makes its approach from the northwest.
Friday we see the next in a series of weak weather fronts coming through. There looks to be the chance for some showers around Friday morning into early afternoon but again we are talking about a minimal amount of rain and some places again will miss out on even the briefest of showers. We will have some leftover warm air around but we also will have clouds as winds shift to the northwest.
Friday’s highs will likely be in the upper 60s well inland north of the urban centers of NYC and Philadelphia and mostly lower 70s everywhere else. The front passes offshore and we have another high building into the Northeast and Mid Atlantic for Friday night and through the weekend which looks to be mainly sunny dry and cooler both weekend days. Longer range next week will likely be dry at least through next Wednesday. The dry spell will only be broken when we see a major change in the pattern and at the moment that doesn’t seem to in the cards anytime soon. The other way it would get broken is if we see tropical cyclone formation and it somehow manages to head up the East Coast. While there might be a new tropical storm that will form in the Caribbean late this week or this coming weekend, it doesn’t not appear to be an East Coast issues at this time.
