Super Bowl Sunday Snow? Weather Models Ponder This
All the chatter in the weather world continues to surround the possibility of snow for Super Bowl Sunday. Weather models continue to zero in on this possibility and we would like to at this time to go over what is in question here regarding this system
Super Bowl Sunday Snow European Model Sunday 7am Upper Air Forecast
First off is whether there will be a viable southern jet stream feature. This is very important. For the last 2 days the European model which has been very unreliable for the last several months had no significant southern stream feature. Today’s run has changed and now shows a viable system in the southern stream. This goes along with the more consistent GFS weather model and others on this idea.

Now from this point it will be a question of what exactly comes out of that southern stream. The GFS has a fairly well developed primary low that weakens and redevelops along the Carolinas and moves northeast. The usual games of whether warm air comes in from off the ocean and how far north the warm air gets would be in play. Both the European and Canadian models have weaker views on this.

Of course being 6 days away, trying to come up with anything specific is a waste of time. We are still in the formative stages here. I don’t think this will be a major event but it could evolve into a moderate snow event for somebody. In the meantime it looks to turn much colder beginning on Thursday and lasting into Sunday so cold air will not be an issue for at least the start of this event should it play out according to the GFS plan.
