Sunday of Sunshine Much of the Week Dry Issues Rise For Memorial Day Weekend
Today sees the return of nice weather across Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England. Yesterday’s wobbling ocean low and a cold front along with its rain has now passed to the east. We will see a Sunday of sunshine and as is typical of systems in late spring, it actually turns out to be warmer behind the front as opposed to ahead of it. Such will be the case today with sunshine taking highs into the middle and upper 70s in most places. Temperatures will be just a bit cooler along the shore with local sea breezes developing. The satellite loop shows the improving trend and regional radar shows showers are offshore and slowly sliding to the east.

There isn’t much to worry about for the first half of the new week and except for showers late Wednesday with an approaching cold front, we should be in good shape. High pressure Monday will be overhead and we will have another day of sunshine with highs in the 70s.
The same holds for Tuesday as it will be another day of sunshine. The high moves out over the Canadian Maritme Provinces and even though the flow is onshore, it doesn’t have a strong marine moisture field that should leave us in a good place. Tuesday highs will also be in the 70s inland but in the cooler 60s south and east facing shorelines and in areas just inland.
Wednesday sees an approaching cold front that will be dropping southward out of Eastern Canada and the Great Lakes. It is a front that really doesn’t have much with it so I think that we will see some sunshine that will take highs to the upper 70s and lower 80s. Some clouds will come in late in the day and there might be a shower or two as the front goes by.
A large high will be dropping southward from Central Canada and building into the Northeast, Midwest and points southward. Lower presssures will develop off the Florida east coast late this week. The ramifications of this are going to impact the Memorial Day holiday weekend but we should see good weather Thursday with sunshine and highs in the 70s, 60s along the coast as winds go northeast.
Friday comes a wind shift to the east and east southeast and this may start to prove problematic going into the weekend particularly if lower pressures off the Florida/Southeast coast cause a low to form, and much like yesterday, wobble up the East Coast over the weekend. The Memorial Day holiday weekend is usually the one weekend in the so called summer season where we lose a day to rain. Some years its 2 days. Some it is all three like 2021 where we had rain and temperatures in the 40s. It seems that models are suggesting that we could see rain Friday night and Saturday and then questions remain for Sunday and Monday. That would be my early call at this vantage point 5 days out.
