Summer Friday Severe Weather Risks Saturday
Much Cooler Sunday Into Next Week
No doubt this afternoon feels like summer. We have a good deal of sunshine from Southern New England southward and that continues for the rest of the day. Temperatures are reaching into the 80s for highs over a large area from Southern New England to the Middle Atlantic states. Some spots from Southern New Jersey southward could see highs of 84 or even 85 this afternoon. Radars are nice and quiet and that will continue overnight and into the first part of Saturday. The shore is the place to be if you can get there. Tonight should be warm with some patchy fog. Lows will be in the upper 50s to lower 60s.

The weekend brings the first cold front through here in nearly 2 weeks and it comes with a sharp upper trough and colder air aloft. This will mean severe weather risks. The Storm Prediction Center continues to show the area in a marginal risk for severe weather.
For the vast majority of the area, nothing will happen storm wise through the afternoon. Most storms will come after 5 or 6pm and they won’t reach the coast untll after 7pm If you have plans for the daytime Saturday go right ahead with them. Highs will be in the 70s to near 80.
Cooler air follows Sunday morning when most lows will be in the mid 40s to lower 50s. The cold upper trough will be over the Northeast Sunday into Tuesday of next week and there will be little ripples moving along it. This will produce some clouds to mix with sun during Sunday and there is the outside chance for a brief shower. Temperatures will be mostly in the 60s for highs and then head down into the 40s to near 50 degrees Monday morning.
Monday will be the coolest day of the Autumn season so far with a mix of sun and clouds and again there is the risk for a passing shower. Highs will be just in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Look for it to become breezy during Sunday and it will still remain breezy at times through Monday and even into Tuesday. We should see more sunshine Tuesday with highs in the 60s. Wednesday we see temperatures heading back into the 70s with sunshine. The next cold front probably arrives late Thursday but there won’t be much with it. The next chance for any widespread rain could come next weekend but that is a long way off from here.
