STORMY WEATHER PATTERN CONTINUES LONG RANGE
STORMS EVERY 2-3 DAYS MORE RAIN, SEASONAL TEMPERATURES
We have been in a very volatile pattern for quite awhile now with storms coming through every 2 to 3 days. We have certainly seen our share of heavy rain events and this looks to continue into next week. In the mix there will be shots of cold air though nothing extreme seems to be in the offing through early next week at least.
The jet stream pattern across remains “split” in the west. Notice the arrow off the coast of California indicates a strong flow from the Pacific into the west as weather systems come in one after another. Meanwhil there is a weak second jet in Canada that is bringing in a limited amount of cold air since that jet stream flow is rather weak at this point. Blocking that was up in the North Atlantic contines to weaken here as weather systems continue to progress along. This has lead to 2 storm systems where the primary tracks to our west and a secondary develops nearby. The result is rain events here with snow in upstate NY & Northern New England, and snows for the parts of the Midwest like we saw yesterday. The next system approaches on Saturday. There is some lead moisture that breaks away and approaches here on Friday but that system is weak.
While there might be a rain or snow shower running around with this late Friday night, the system right behind it aims for us for the weekend. This low will head for the Great Lakes. There is no real cold air around so it is a rain event even in areas to the north. Rain will move in during Saturday afternoon and then moves out early Sunday. With a little luck weather conditions should improve on Sunday for a better second half of the weekend. Then a break on Monday before the next system comes out of the Plains for Tuesday of next week.
This system is another primary low secondary low for us with much colder air coming down into the Midwest so some snow is possible there. This could be another 1 to 2 inch rain producer for us. Then the Canadian jet strengthens and that brings down colder air for later next week.
The jet stream pattern changes a bit after this storm goes by with the Canadian jet strengthening and that brings colder air into the Eastern US for the second half of next week. The split flow disappears after this so that could cut down the stormy activity for awhile. The pattern looks like typical early December around here.
