Stormy Pattern Continues Into April
Weather models continue to show a very active stormy pattern through the first 10 days of April as we continue to see a very strong Pacific Jet move across the Southern United States with a “split flow”. The Canadian or northern jet moves along the Canadian border. Storms will be impacting the east every 2 to 3 days. The first one this Friday actually sets up with colder air aloft and this opens the door to some snow for Upstate NY and for Central and Northern New England.
GFS JET STREAM FORECAST FRIDAY AFTERNOON
The upper air jet stream pattern sets up for frequent precipitation events. Two systems stand out on Friday’s GFS weather model with one in the Ohio Valley and the next one right behind it in the Southwestern US which will follow along next week. Both will produce severe weather events across the south. The first system for Friday will come with a cold high to the north as precipitation arrives.
NAM MODEL FORECAST FRIDAY MORNING INTO SATURDAY AFTERNOON
Today’s NAM model has the coldest look of all the models and it actually has precipitation starting as snow or sleet north of Route 84 in NY State and Connecticut before warmer air takes over. Im thinking that in elevation driven areas well north into the Hudson Valley and for Northernmost Connecticut into Western and Central Massachusetts and on north into Vermont and New Hampshire. For our area it is a cold rain for Friday into Saturday. Skiers will love this late season snowfall which could measure many inches in those high elevation ski resorts to the north. Weather models are also very bullish on total rainfalls of several inches or more in some areas.
GFS RAIN FORECAST THROUGH SATURDAY EVENING
With regards to snow I think the GFS has the best look of all the models as far as snowfall is concerned though it is well overdone on the southern flank and probably somewhat underdone in areas to the north.
GFS SNOW FORECAST FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY
Once the rain and this storm system moves out later Saturday weather conditions will improve for Sunday and Monday but then the next system is already here for late Monday night with another cold rain.
GFS FORECAST TUESDAY APRIL 4TH 2017
With yet another weather system right behind it poised to head east late next week, it could turn out to be the most productive period of rainfall we have seen here in a couple of years…if the weather model 10 day rainfall forecast plays out.
GFS 16 DAY RAINFALL FORECAST
Baseball begins next week with opening day on Monday for the Mets and Monday does look like a dry day.
