Snow Threat Suddenly Appears
This morning we see an approaching cold front with clouds and even a few snow showers on the radar. However this is not the snow threat we speak of. Nor is the weather system for Tuesday into Wednesday the snow threat we speak of either. Firstly other than the passing snow shower today we will be in clouds and temperatures could reach the upper 30s and lower 40s. Then some dry air comes in from the north and skies should partially clear out with lows in the 20s to near 30.

You can see some snow showers on the local radars this morning. Once they move out radars should go into quiet model until Monday night when the approaching low from the Great Lakes begins to spread clouds and rain here for Tuesday. Monday we should see sunshine with some arriving late day clouds and highs in the 30s.

Weather models have continued to show less and less with this Great Lakes system which means 2 things. A less intense storm from the Great Lakes means there is a less dominant feature in the atmosphere which would suppress anything else coming from the west for later this week. This is the reason why we have seen models trend northward with a wave off the Southeast US coast to now off the Virginia coast for late Wednesday night into Thursday. With regards to the first system we will get some rain Tuesday and Tuesday evening before the rain moves out and that’s it.

If this plays out according to overnight night model runs this could be a significant snowfall on the order of several inches or more. Even in the worst patterns snow finds a way to happen sometimes. However I would caution that this may not be the final outcome and that models could very well adjust further north or south. Other models offer a variation of this but are different in terms of speed and time. We will discuss this in greater detail later today.
