Snow Showers Moving Northeast Rainy Weekend Ahead

We are seeing a weakening upper air disturbance moving across the Northeast this evening. Clouds are around and there are some snow showers on the radar but they aren’t producing much other than whitening up the ground in a few spots. This is all part of the transition to warmer air that will occur this weekend. A frontal boundary will stall overhead. There is no real cold air around so we will see temperatures hold steady in the 30s overnight and then head into the upper 40s and lower 50s Saturday.

Saturday rain will be moving northeastward and expanding over us. Rain will develop from southwest to northeast form late morning to mid afternoon and the rain will be on and off heavy at times into Sunday afternoon. Temperatures Sunday will reach into the 50s. One more round of rain is likely Sunday night into early Monday morning before weather conditions genuinely improve later Monday.

GFS RAINFALL FORECAST

Snow Showers Moving Northeast Rainy Weekend Ahead

Weather models have been very consistent with a 1 to 2 inch rainfall with some locally higher amount possible This has been a rather productive week as far as rain is concerned. This is the third system in a week to produce at least an inch of liquid precipitation and we have seen activity like that in quite a while.

Next week will see several more systems along the way of varying strength. Cold air is minimal through at least mid week though there is some hint of some coming back at the end of next week to meet up with one of these systems. We will see whether this amounts to anything snow wise but for now the pattern seems to argue against any serious snow issues in the next week or so.
