With the overnight weather models now having run, the low coming in from the west will continue to take a track into Western NY and ultimately redevelop near Long Island later Thursday. This track favors mostly rain and of course given the time of year it is not a surprise. However the cold air mass over the northeast and some blocking are enough to pin cold air southwestward from Northern New England into southern areas of the Northeast into Thursday morning which allows for snow at the start inland of the coast.
The GFS and NAM model snow forecast maps are about the same from prior runs with a slight shift southward but for the most part they are even with earlier forecasts. The GFS model is more robust wit precipitation and snow amounts.

Since these models tend to overdo it a bit my forecast maps cut back on amounts shown on the southern end. The key will be the timing and arrival of precipitation while there is still some cold air left.
I made no changes to this map which I posted earlier on Tuesday. I will wait for day run models to do any adjusting in either direction. GFS rainfall amounts are still in the .50 to 1 inch range.
