SNOW FORECAST MAP FOR THURSDAY
Based on this afternoon’s model run which seem to have shifted slightly to the south and the idea that colder air could be a bit more stubborn, I am issuing the first snowfall forecast map of the season. For the coast it is rain though don’t be surprised if it rushes in fast, there could be a few ice pellets. Just inland a few ice pellets or even a few wet snow flakes might be there at the very start for a few minutes. As we approach and go north of Route 84 especially in elevated areas there could be a little bit of snow accumulation on grassy surfaces for a short time. Further north into the Catskills there could a slushy couple of inches especially in elevated areas.
Precipitation arrives Thursday morning around daybreak when temperatures will be close to or just above freezing. It might be cold enough for a few hours to support these accumulation numbers. It all goes to rain no matter what happens and rainfall amounts look to be on the order of .50 inch to an inch which at least puts a tiny dent in the long term drought.
