Smoke Making A Comeback In the East
Thunderstorm Risks Diminish Next Few Days
Today’s weather in a minute video focuses on the wild fire smoke that is moving back into the US and specifically the Great Lakes and the Eastern US. Some air quality alerts are up and the forecast smoke map from firesmoke.ca shows areas of dense smoke and poor air quality move through parts of the East over the next 2 days.
We also continue to wait for a cold front to pass through the Eastern US. It has been literally crawling its way eastward from Central NY to Central Pennsylvania. This front will finally pass through late today and we will see clouds and some sun ahead of it. There is the chance for some scattered showers or a thunderstorm this afternoon and evening but we are not anticipating severe weather issues today. High temperatures this afternoon will be in the upper 70s to lower 80s and humidity is still a bit on the high side.

You can expect to see showers and thunderstorms to be more numerous in Upstate NY and interior New England today and tonight as the front moves offshore. This should lead to some improvement over the next couple of days as weak high pressure builds in Thursday and Friday.
Humidity levels will be a little lower Thursday and Friday so it should feel a bit better. However it won’t last beyond Friday as we have the next round of weather systems that will be moving through over the weekend and into early next week. At least Thursday and Friday will be no worse than partly sunny with just the outside chance for an isolated shower or thunderstorm. Highs both days will be into the 80s with cooler readings along the shore.
As far as the weekend is concerend, it will not be what I would consider a washout as much of the daytime both Saturday and Sunday will be dry. However we also have weather fronts and upper troughs moving through and that will trigger off opportunities for showers and thunderstorms. It is hard to say exactly where these storms will form so the best approach is to remember that the risks are there through the weekend.
Temperatures Saturday and Sunday will be mostly in a range of 80 to 85 degrees inland with 70s likely along most shore locations. Humidity levels will be on the high side as dew points make it back into the 60s. The highest chance for any showers and thunderstorms will be in the afternoon and evening hours.
As we head into the July 4th holiday next Tuesday we continue to see weather models picking up on an active flow of weather systems moving through the Northeast US. This is likely to lead to warm and humid conditions Monday and Tuesday with the risk for showers and thunderstorms Monday but perhaps a lower risk is in order for Tuesday July 4th. Highs both days will be in the 80S with 70s along the shore in case you are beach bound.
