Slow Improvement Over the Weekend,

Thanksgiving Week Dry Through Wednesday

Our storm system that brought much needed rain as well as heavy snow to elevated areas inland is finally pulling away to the northeast and weather conditions will slowly improve today. Any clouds that are around this morning will gradually give way to some sunshine. Since there isn’t much colder air behind he the storm, temperatures today should rebound nicely. We will have a gusty northwest wind however and temperatures should make it back to the upper 40s and lower 50s. Radars are showing the back edge of the rain over Southern New England and Long Island so there might be a little rain left to work through in these areas until the system moves far enough to the east.

Tonight we will see skies become mostly clear and Sunday morning lows will be in the low to middle 30s inland and mostly lower 40s coast and warmer urban locations. Sunday is definitely the better of the two weekend days with sunshine, a slowly easing wind, and highs reaching the low and middle 50s.

Thanksgiving week begins on the mild side Monday. We do have a cold front that will be approaching Monday night into Tuesday that might bring a little bit of shower activity when the front goes by Tuesday but it won’t amount to much. The front is going to stall out across the Deep South and that will set up the next storm system for the second half of the week.

There is some colder air that will come in behind the front Wednesday into Thanksgiving day as low pressure develops on that front. There is a lead wave that runs out ahead of the main low and that will bring some rain Thanksgiving Day afternoon. The second wave will be stronger and we will see more rain Thursday night into Friday. There is a chance that colder air could be enough to change the rain to snow for areas inland.

Tuesday will still be on the warmish side with sun and clouds and the risk for a passing afternoon shower. Highs will be in the 50s to around 60. Then it turns colder for Wednesday with some sunshine and highs just in the 40s to around 50. Thanksgiving day temperatures will be in the 40s and it will be a bit on the raw side with a northeast wind and the arriving rain in the afternoon. Friday with the second system will be colder with most highs in the upper 30s inland and lower 40s near the coast. There is much colder air coming down behind the second low for next weekend but we will keep an eye on this in case it becomes more involved with the second low as that could impact precipitation type especially inland.
