Thanksgiving Week Begins Dry But More Rain is Coming Thanksgiving Day
Thanksgiving Week Begins Dry But More Rain is Coming Maybe Some Snow Inland
The strong storm system that brought might needed rain to a vast portion of the Northeast and heavy mountain snows is history and what is left overhead is weak high pressure. To the west we have the next weather front that is moving along across the Western Great Lakes Ahead of it some patchy clouds are streaming eastward but for the most part today is a partly sunny day across Eastern Pennsylvania to Southern New England. Most highs will be in the low to middle 50s. Winds will still be on the gusty side as the pressure gradient remains tight but that will start to relax late today and overnight. Most lows tonight will be in the 30s inland and lower 40s warmer urban centers and along the coast.

The week ahead which of course includes Thanksgiving Day and the Friday shopping day sees no major storms but we do have a couple of weather systems to deal with. The first arrives Monday night into Tuesday as a cold front passes and low pressure moves across Upstate NY and Southeastern Canada.
The weather front is weak and there might be a few passing showers Monday night into Tuesday morning followed by a shot of colder air to take us into midweek. Another storm system coming out of the Southern Plains heads northeastward. Most of the models show this low heading to our west as low pressure runs to West Virginia and then center jumps to Long Island during the day Thursday and then exits Friday morning. There are some model differences from overnight that suggest it could all go well south with little to nothing precipitation wise but for now we will go with the idea for some rain Thanksgiving day.
Monday on the whole will be a mostly sunny day and temperatures will likely push higher from the mid 50s north of NYC and upper 50s and lower 60s to the south. Tuesday once the front passes east we should see showers exiting in the morning and slow improvement in the afternoon with highs in the 50s to near 60.
Wednesday will be a little colder as another weak high builds in and we should see mainly sunny skies with highs in the 40s to around 50 degrees so there will be no weather issues for those of you traveling in or outside the local area for Thanksgiving. Thursday we see that next storm system approach and play through with an ocean wind. Rain will spread across the area in the morning and come to end Thursday night. ‘
Most highs will be in the 40s. Model guidance many days ago was showing a snowstorm for Thanksgiving day so clearly that was totally wrong and made fools of some folks who posted 10 to 15 day snow forecast maps as if they were the holy gospel. Friday sees improvement as a colder pattern take hold and some sunshine returns. Most highs Friday will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s.
Next weekend will be cold as we enter a period of below normal temperatures and cold air masses will be dropping into the Eastern US on a regular basis as we head through next weekend and into the first week of December. Models keep things mostly dry going forward and as someone who is somewhat of a contrarian, that probably means that something is likely to pop up storm wise in the longer term!
