Sleet Rain Moving East Weather Improves Tonight
This afternoon we are seeing a weak disturbance moving through and it is producing sleet and perhaps even some wet snow flakes mixed in. Temperatures at the ground are in the upper 30s and lower 40s so this is having no impact on commutes. Some wet snow flakes could be mixing in over elevated areas and rain elsewhere. This disturbance will continue to move along and should be moving offshore and to the east this evening.
Radar shows the area centered over NYC. There is one more patch of precipitation in Eastern Pennsylvania that will play through as well. Behind this system skies will actually partially clear from the northeast to southwest tonight with temperatures in the upper 20s to mid 30s by morning.
LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY
There are no changes to the weekend outlook. We actually will start Saturday with sunshine before clouds move in. Rain will arrive in the late afternoon and evening as a warm front begins its approach from the south. Temperatures will be chilly Saturday with highs just into the 40s. When rain arrives in Northeast Pennsylvania some sleet and freezing rain could be there at the start and that will also occur at the start in the Catskills and in the Hudson Valley north of route 84. Then look for rain overnight into Sunday morning. Rainfall amounts will be 3/4 inch to 1.25 inches. Rain ends Sunday morning from west to east.
Sunday’s dilemma remains regarding whether the warm front moves through or not. For Central and South Jersey and in Eastern Pennsylvania it should make it and highs could reach the 60s Sunday afternoon with leftover clouds. For other areas from Northern New Jersey to Southern New England it could be a struggle for much of the day. Temperatures should make it to the 50s regardless. As far as next week is concerned we will address that this evening in a long range post.
