Showers Late Thursday Saturday Mother’s Day May Improve

It really was a great day today with lots of sunshine through most of the area though you can see some clouds hugging some coastal areas this evening. Low pressure is offshore and moving  out to the northeast. To the west  we have a cold front approaching that will arrive here late Thursday evening. There will be some showers and possible thunderstorms ahead of it though I think that they should be below severe threshold. Meanwhile tonight look for some clouds around with some patchy coastal fog for Long Island and the New Jersey shore. Temperatures overnight should be mostly in the 50s to near 60.

Radars will be nice and quiet overnight and through most of Thursday before we see the chance for scattered showers or a thunderstorms in the late afternoon and evening. The NAM model does do too much with all this.

NAM MODEL FORECAST THURSDAY MAY 10 2018

Showers Late Thursday Saturday Mother's Day May Improve

Now once the front goes by, we should see improvement on Friday with sunshine and highs into the 70s. The weekend has changed a bit with a warm front moving through with some showers late Friday night and Saturday morning and some late thunderstorms with a cold front. Assuming we break out into warm and humid conditions in between we could see temperatures reach into the 80s before the cold front passes.

GFS FORECAST SUNDAY MAY 13, 2018

Showers Late Thursday Saturday Mother's Day May Improve

We have been talking about a cold front moving through here very slowly on Sunday however it appears we have a stronger push of air coming down from the north. The northern part of the jet stream is flexing its muscle a bit more which is allowing the front to drop southward faster. If this verifies we could see improving weather conditions on Sunday with some developing sunshine but highs will be probably only in the 60s to lower 70s. Models have been trending in this direction since this morning so we have our fingers crossed for a better Mother’s Day.
