Severe Weather Risks Later Today Hudson Valley,
New Jersey, NYC Long Island and Points South
Today’s weather is going to be driven by a cold front and another deep upper air trough that is moving through the Great Lakes and Northeast. This is creating severe weather risk up and down the Eastern Seaboard. Much of our area from Eastern Pennsylania to Southern New England is under a slight risk for isolated severe thunderstorms later today into tonight while a sight risk which may mean for clusters of severe thunderstorms are indicated for Southern New Jersey south to Delaware, Eastern Maryland and Virginia.
Low pressure is in Eastern Ohio this morning moving northward and dragging a warm front up the coast. South of the warm front dew points are rising into the 60s and we expect to see this front push into Upstate NY and New England later today and that sets up the zone for severe weather risk.
Ahead of this are clouds and some scattered showers that will give way to some breaks of sun and then showers and thunderstorms come in from west to east later today. Rainfall amounts will range from about 1/2 to 3/4 inch with heavier amounts inland in Pennsylvania where it is abnormally dry in much of the state. As always with thunderstorms there will be some variability with rainfall amounts with a potential for 1.5 inches in some places if a thunderstorms sits overhead long enough.
When it is not raining, we will spend much of the time in clouds though the satellite loop is picking up on breaks in the cloud cover so this will impact daytime heating today. Also we will have a south wind and that will definitely keep things cooler along south and east facing shoreline areas where highs will just be into the 70s at best while most highs inland will be in the mid 70s. Lower 80s will be common from Southern New Jersey southward.,

WEATHER RADAR
The front moves along with showers and thunderstorms making their exit to the east tonight leaving us with leftover clouds and most lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Tuesday we should see a mix of sun and clouds a west wind helps to dry things out. Highs will be in the mid to upper 70s overall with warm spots touching 80 or so. We don’t see showers being an issue Tuesday.
Weather systems this week will be moving along so we have 3 cold fronts to deal with. The first one today. A second cold front will arrive Wednesday and with that we could see the chance for showers and thunderstorms later in the day. Highs will be mostly in the 70s. We will catch a break Thursday with some sunshine and highs in the 70s and then another cold front comes through Friday with the chance for showers and thunderstorms. Again highs will be in the 70s.
