Severe Weather Mid Atlantic Ohio Valley Sunday,
Southern New England to Georgia Monday
We have two days of severe weather risk ahead of us. Today the Storm Prediction Center has the risk for severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. Now this doesn’t mean that it rains all afternoon and evening but the risk is there. If you are doing anything outdoors have a back up plan to move indoors just in case.
A warm front has passed through with some overnight showers and downpours. That is moving through New England. This sets us up in a very warm humid air mass with high dew points. A cold front will approach this afternoon and evening but it will remain to the west and not pass through until later Monday. The satellite loop below shows clouds to the west. The colored spots that are flashing are showing lightning strikes that are occurring.

WEATHER RADAR
In between today we will have clouds mixed with sunshine and it will be uncomfortably humid with dew points shooting up through the 60s. Most highs today will be in the low to middle 80s with 70s along the immedate coast thanks to a southwest wind off the ocean. Watch the radars late this afternoon and evening for thunderstorm development. Wind gusts in severe thunderstorms of 50 mph or more are the most likely outcome from these storms. Tornado risk is not very high but it is not zero.
Once the storms clear it leaves us in a very warm and humid overnight with lows in the mid 60s to lower 70s. Monday we have a cold front that will be approaching and ahead of that we will see sunshine very warm and humiid conditions. Inland highs will reach 85 to 90 degrees and even at the shore highs will reach into the 80s.
An arriving cold front and upper trough will be the mechanism to set off thunderstorms later Monday afternoon and evening and the Storm Prediction Center indicates a second day of severe weather risk from New England south to the Carolinas. The highest chance for storm will be from mid afternoon through mid evening.
The good news is that Tuesday we will be left in a solid spot for sunshine and no showers or thunderstorms to worry about. In fact the humidity may come down a bit Tuesday making for fine conditions for outdoor activities and no issues Tuesday night for fireworks displays. Highs Tuesday will be in the middle to upper 80s. Temperatures may be a few degrees cooler at the shore. It looks to remain dry and warm until Friday when the next cold front is set to be close enough for showers and thunderstorms.
