Severe Thunderstorm Watches Posted From NY State South to Virginia
As of 4pm, 2 large areas of the Northeast and Northern Mid Atlantic States are under Severe Thunderstorm watches. One covers much of NY State and Pennsylvania. Thunderstorms are rolling through this watch area already and additional storms will develop as we head into the evening.
The second severe thunderstorm watch covers the Lower Hudson Valley, NYC, all of New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania as well as Maryland, Delaware and Northern Virginia. Thunderstorms will impact this area during the evening hours.
We are not done as the Storm Prediction Center has indicated the likelihood of another Severe Thunderstorm Watch going up for New England.
Strong daytime heating continues and the atmosphere is destabilize. We broke out to sunshine around mid morning and while some areas lost a couple off hours of sun, it caught up this afternoon as temperatures as of 4pm in the upper 80s and lower 90s over much of the areas inside the watch zone. A lead line of thunderstorms is pushing through Eastern Pennsylvania north into Central NY. Another line follows behind that one.
SATELLITE
There is a high probability of strong gusty winds of over 50 knots with these storms. We have already seen a slew of severe thunderstorm warnings and more are on the way as this cold front moves on through. Look for storms to sweep across the area this evening and through the first part of tonight. Our weather will be nice for Thursday with low humidity sunshine and warm highs in the lower 80s. As far as Friday and the holiday weekend are concerned, Rain will arrive later Friday into early Saturday followed by leftover showers Saturday afternoon. Temperatures will be in the 60s Friday and only in the mid 50s to low 60s on Saturday. Some very slow improvement is possible Sunday and we remain cautiously optimistic for Monday.
