Severe Thunderstorm Watch Pennsylvania New Jersey Southward

At least it isn’t a tornado watch but for the 3rd day in a row we have a severe thunderstorm watch posted for the same areas that have seen watches yesterday. A cold front is approaching and this will trigger off thunderstorms as we head into this evening. This cold front will finally rid us of the frontal boundary that has been lying east west across the area for the last several days and we will finally get things moving again bringing in a new regime of weather.

Once again it is the same dilemma in areas east of the warm front. Marine air covers coastal New Jersey Long Island & Southern New England. Temperatures here are 15 degrees cooler than temperatures back in Western New Jersey & Pennsylvania where the atmosphere is highly unstable and favorable for thunderstorm development. Areas of the east could see some destabilization of the atmosphere if the warm front forces its way further east. This could promote thunderstorms in those areas this evening so we will watch developments carefully.

REGIONAL RADAR

We are starting to see radars getting busy with some showers developing. Some thunderstorms are starting to get going as well across Pennsylvania. It is all moving to the east and we should start seeing impacts from this between 3pm and 9pm from west to east.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

LOCAL RADAR PHILADELPHIA
storm free

We should remind you that we also have Flash Flood Watches up for a large portion of our area. With the thunderstorms of the last few days the ground in many areas is saturated and it won’t take much rain to set off some flash flooding so be aware of this as thunderstorms move in.
