Record Highs Set As Cold Front Moves South. Large Temperature Changes Thursday
What a day record wise across the tri-state area. NYC Central Park hit a record high of 91 which is the first 90 degree day since 1941. An all time October record high temperature was set at Newark New Jersey at 94. An all time record high was tied at Islip at 88. Laguardia, JFK & Bridgeport in Connecticut also set record highs.
This hot early October day is however coming to an end this evening as a cold front pushes southward. The cloud line continues to move southward and will gradually take over this evening. Winds will be shifting to the northeast and temperatures will start falling. By morning we will be down in the 50s everywhere except in South Jersey and Southern Pennsylvania where 60s could hang on a bit longer.

The regional and local radars show showers and a few thunderstorms developing and the front is well defined on the regional radar. There are some stronger cells that have developed in this mix of convection. There is no organized line of storms but a few stronger storms are possible.

Thursday will be a completely different day than today with temperatures in many areas barely getting out of the 50s and north of NYC we could be in the low to mid 50s all day. We will also see some on and off rain Thursday into Thursday night which is much needed given the very dry conditions we have here. Once this second cold front passes weather conditions will improve on Friday.
Much cooler air will be here Friday and Saturday. Friday we will see a mix of sun and clouds with highs in the 60s. Then we will be heading down into the 30s and 40s Saturday morning in many areas and some inland areas could see their first frosts Saturday morning. We will have more on this in the coming days.
Saturday looks nice and sunny but it will be very cool with highs just reaching into the lower 60s.Then the next cold front begins its approach so look for arriving clouds and the chance for showers late in the day on Sunday or Sunday night with highs in the 60s to near 70. We have another cold front approaching for Monday with a good chance for rain or showers as this front makes its way east.
The weather pattern is changing as Hurricane Lorenzo (now extratropical) begins to set off a series of changes in the pattern across the Northern Hemisphere. This will lead to more chances for rain and additional shots of colder air coming down from Canada over the next several weeks.
