Rainfall Forecast Amouts Through Tuesday Long Island

Rainfall Forecast Amouts Through Tuesday Long Island

Published Sunday 8/21/22

Long Island has not seen a widespread island wide rainfall all summer long. In fact the South Shore of Long Island has seen little in the way of thunderstorms this summer as they all seem to be focused more on the North Shore. Both North and South Shore are showing below average rainfall but the South Shore is seeing a moderate drought condition. This system for tonight and Monday should produce 3/4 inch to 1.5 inches of rain for Long Island with amounts a little lower east and south. It isn’t much but it is better than nothing. There could be some scattered thunderstorms in the mix which will cause some locally heavy rain in spots but where they show up will depend on what radars tell us overnight.

Rainfall develops tonight ahead of a warm front and the map above is for 2am Monday morning which shows much of the area under rain and with some heavier downpours. Once the warm front goes by we will left with clouds and showery rains around Monday along with a few heavier downpours. Temperatures Monday will be in the 70s to near 80 thanks to more clouds and some rain. Some scattered thundertorms could be in the mix. Some showers will linger into early Tuesday before weather conditions begin to improve.
