Rain Today Followed By A Quick Cold Shot
Rain today will be developing during this morning from south to north beginning in Southeastern Pennsylvania and Southern New Jersey just after 7am and reaching New York City before noon. The rain today will continue into Thursday evening before gradually ending from west to east as a wave of low pressure goes by and a cold front moves offshore.
Rainfall amounts will be in the half inch to three quarters of an inch range for most of the area. It will be the second time that it has rained this week and 2 rainfall events in one week have not happened around here in quite awhile thanks to the drought pattern we have been in. Satellite loops and radars below show the current loops and radar echos as they advance to the northeast. Radars are picking up on some heavier downpours in the mix.
Once the rain is done late tonight colder air begins to move in and temperatures are going to be held back on Friday with highs just into the 50s in most areas. Then temperatures hit their bottom Saturday morning in the upper 20s to lower 30s in most places and highs on Saturday will be in the 30s to around 40.
By Saturday afternoon the core of the cold air moves overhead and then moves to the east. Saturday night will be cold but by Sunday temperatures will already be bouncing up through the 40s and it will be back to above normal temperatures. The trip to normal temperatures for mid December will be a very brief one. The warmup continues into Christmas Eve where there is a fair chance that temperatures will reach at least the 60s and possibly higher if the onshore flow doesn’t get in the way.
