Rain Moving Northeast For The Afternoon
This is not going to be a big rain producer as the overnight rain moved through with not much fanfare. Now the second round of rain is ramping up on the radar. We will see rain moving northeast this morning across New Jersey and into the Lower Hudson Valley NYC Southern Connecticut & Long Island around midday. For Southern New Jersey & Southeast Pennsylvania the rain that is around now will move out during the early afternoon as the area shifts along to the northeast. North of Route 84 there may not be much rain at all from this.
One of the things you can see on the satellite loop is the block taking control today. Low pressure off the coast of New Foundland isn’t moving very much and as a result the frontal system in the east will be sitting here for the next several days.

This entire week is not going to be a pretty one. While it does not rain all the time there will be threats for rain along the way. The next wave moving up the coast will slide just to our south and east so I think that favors a period of rain for New Jersey Long Island and NYC for late Tuesday and Tuesday night but not much further north of there (unless it shifts northwestward) and then we get a break on Wednesday. The more important shot of rain comes Thursday and Thursday night as the entire upper trough in the midwest swings to the coast. that could be a more important rain producer.

The first map shows the rain just for Thursday and Thursday night. The second one is the rain forecast for the entire week. When its not raining it is cloudy and cool with temperatures only into the 60s at best.As for the Memorial Day holiday weekend the uncertainty continues though if I had to bet on a dry day it will probably be Saturday before another weather system moves in for later Sunday and Monday. It will be on the cool side as well into early next week.
