Rain Moving into NY NJ CT PA Thursday, Rain/Snow Showers Saturday Night
It didn’t take long for clouds to roll in this morning but indeed they came in hurry just before sunrise this morning and they are going to be a tough fight to get rid of today. High cloud to the west are beginning to make eastward progress now that the big ridge of high pressure aloft is beginning to move eastward and breaking down. At some point later today and this evening we could see some spotty light rain or drizzle pop up on the radar with a steadier rain also beginning to move into the picture from the west. But as far as the day goes it should be dry for the most part as temperatures recover back into and eventually through the 50s.
The cold front from the midwest which has been producing showers and thunderstorms for the last 2 days from Louisiana to the great lakes begins to push east however how much of the rain holds together remains to be seen. I keep hoping that enough of it does to produce at least an inch of rainfall from Eastern Pennsylvania to Southeast New York and New Jersey to southern New England but this remains to be seen.
The key will be the front slowing down a little when it gets to the coast which at least could give us a few extra hours of rain. I think rain moves in the Eastern Pennsylvania Thursday morning by daybreak to about the West Jersey border around 8am and then to NYC and nearby around noon..to about 2pm over Eastern Long Island and Connecticut…and then ending from west to east around 7pm in western areas and around midnight in eastern areas. Temperatures on Thursday will be in the low to mid 60s. Friday some sunshine returns with cooler temperatures in the 50s.
Saturday sees the approach of another cold front with actual cold air behind it and that front will come through Saturday night with some rain showers that turn to snow showers which should be done by Sunday morning. I’m not expecting anything other than a cheap thrill with this however upstate New York will see the lake effect machine get turned on in some areas.
it appears the areas east of Lake Ontario are being favored here given the west wind that is forecast. I might cut the map amounts back by 1/3. Darker blues to me are just non accumulating snows and they extend into Northeast Pennsylvania so I’m thinking its close enough to throw it in there. You can count the flakes if they happen.
