The latest satellite loop shows the extent of low clouds and fog that have covered much of the immediate coast today. You needed a light jacket along the south shore of Long Island and Coastal New Jersey with temperatures at the ocean front just in the lower 60s! Look for Patchy Fog Overnight Along Coast to spread inland somewhat with clouds building back westward. The onshore flow began yesterday and continues tonight into Friday morning.
Showers on the radars to the west are weakening this evening. And while there will be passing showers or a thunderstorm on Friday, they should be just that. Some sun will break through the clouds with temperatures in the upper 60s to middle 70s.
As far as the weekend goes, Saturday will be the better of the two weekend days with mix sun and clouds and highs in the 70s to near 80. Sunday we have a strong cold front that will be coming through.
The key to Sunday’s forecast is the warm sector and where it sets up. The latest GFS model run puts us in the warm sector and with strong dynamics aloft, there is the risk of severe weather Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. Lots going on this weekend between the tropics and severe weather but at least you have Saturday to do things outdoors.
